PATPIOTIC CAMPETIDES
The Patriotic Competitions oiyanisei l I>y the Hokitika Branch of the Overseas Club assisted by the Westland Caledonian Society, will be held at the Princess Theatre oil Tuesday and Wednesday, Bi'pL'mL'*’ -4th, and 2-nh. The entries for the coin petitions close at the Overseas !ub rooms i<>n Kir row evening at !; o’clock.
The jiiMgrannre of events is (livid.(l into three sect inis, 'i lie lirst is Elocution, for which .1. F. Wilson Esq. ol Greyniouth is the appointed judge. 'I lie second section is vocal music, C. Stallan Esq. of Gnp mouth being adjudicator. 'i’lie third section is dancing lor which If. MacDonald Esq. of Fail lie. (Canterbury) is the appointed judge.
The various classes of the difleivnt sections are well arranged, and give the opportunity for old and young to take part. Competitions of the character proposed have an educating side, and those who compete will find it to their improving advantage. A note of patriotism is struck also in the works suggested for treatment, for it is well to cultivate a national spirit, and to regard one’s country and its wellare with feelings of fealty. As announced already, entries lor all the classes close to-morrow night. The event is now less than three weeks away and will be awaited with interest by the public who will derive « very pleasurable form of entertainment from the Patriotic Competitions.
