(Received This Day at 9.1 S a.m.) LONDON, August 27. General Haig reports at three o’clock this big the Canadians, Scottish, and Londoners attacked on both sides of the river Scarpe, from Croiselles to the neighbourhood of Gavrolle. On the suth bank the Canadians attacked gallantly, and passed through the enemy’s ‘foremost defences and captured* Orange Hill in their first rush. The Canadians, despite rain storms, soon reached Wamecourt, and Monchy le Preux, capturing both and progressing beyond them. North of the Scarpe, the Scots, captured the first German defences south of Gavrelle and reached the outskirts Rbeux. They also captured the chemical works north thereof . Scots and Londoners completed tho capture of the high ground between Croiselles and Heninel, taking many prisoners. , Southward our advance continued on both banqs of the Somme. The Australians took Coppy and progressed eastward and northward of Somme rierv Thev captured Suszanue. Further north the English advanced in the direction of Montsuban. Ihe Welsh captured Bazentin lo Grand. Our pressure everywhere has been maintained and the Hue advanced in certain sectors.
