PATRIOTIC COMPETITIONS.
One of Hie special classes in the vocal music section at tin* forthcoming Patriotic, Competitions, is that to encourage school chorus singing. -Mr. .T. A. Valentine was asked to select the musical numbers to be treated in competition, and his selection is as follows:—(a) the glee, “Sweet and Low” (b) the chorus, “Will ye no Come Back Again?” The choice seems to be a very happy one in every respect, the numbers lending themselves to feeling treatment, and giving the juveniles an opportunity to entertain their seniors with two very popular numbers. The chorus party is to consist of not more than twelve voices, so as to give the country schools an opportunity to compete, and any school may enter as many chorus parties as it can organise from its school roll. The competition is open to all schools on the West Coast and a silver cup is to be bold for the year, will he awarded the school the chorus party of which is placed first on the list. The organisers hope for a considerable entry for this class which promises to be one of the most interesting competitions of the occasion. It is desired to specially emphasise the fact that the competition is open fo all schools, and a wide interest in the event is looked for .The entries for this class, as for all other events at the Patriotic competitions, close on the 7th September with the lion, secretaries of the Overseas Club.
