MR PERRIS’S ACCOUNT.

EASTWARD OF THE OISE an important capture. (PKR PIIES9 ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, August 23. yir Perris states that General Mangin’s advance eastward of the Oise has been sometimes stoutly resisted, but elsewhere he has proceeded with singular ease. The capture of Mont de Choisy, between the Aisne and th© Cuth, standing three hundred feet above tlie river valley was a decisive point in the success/ The Germans viciously defended Cutli, but seeing themselves irresistibly pressed into low swampy land, between th© hills and the river, accepted the inevitable and beat a rapid and sometimes disorderly retreat. General Mangin is holding the Oise near Noyou, necessitating the abandonment of the last enemy hold on the Divette Valley. Thursday was mainly devoted to : consolidation work. Many cannon and much material and stores were hurriedly abandoned by the enemy and found behind the broken lines. French cavalry patrols and tanks were out in all directions, sweeping th© country free of all enemy groups. The French guns are rapidly coming up. Our aviators are incessantly bombing the river. Their skill in plan and execution of movement, and the way each move is aided by the other, are most tftrtfcing and are big with promise.
