MR MASSEY INTERVIEWED,

| ON DR SOI-F’S SPEECH. j [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.J j (Received This Day at 9.50. a.m.) ! LONDON, August 22. J Hon. W. F. Mnsesy interviewed regarding Dr Self’s speech, said it may . l>o iakon for granted that Self speaks th 0 German Government’s mind. Germany now talks peace bv negotiation, ; because she has found the policy of the I mniled fist is doomed to failure ; but - after Germany’s treatment of Belgium, J the eivilsed world will never again take | Germany’s word or bond. She is a criminal among nations and will we hope, be compelled to appeal at the bar of national Justice in the not distant, future, and accept punishment for her misdeeds. Dr Solf pretends that Germany has not pursued an aggressive policy in Africa, and Pacific and her i future colonial possesions shall corres- j pond to her merits as shown to tho coloured races under her care.

I am able to say continued Mr Massey, that native races in the Pacific, hate and detest her, whereas they have ( shown their practical sympathy with I Britain’s Allies. I have not heard that I uny native of Germany’s late colonies ! wanted to fight- for Germany. Regarding the Anglo-Saxons in the Pncific, | we have not- forgotten the vessels sunk j and fellow citizens drowned on our coasts. We .know the possibilities of ! allowing the Germans to establish wireless stations and Headquarters for submarines and aircraft fleets. We have experienced Germany’s peaceful penetration and war-waging methods, and we don’t want either, until Germany atones for her offences against God and man, and gives security for better behaviour in tho future. Until then, Germany should not be allowed to rank as a civilized nation.
