The Committee met at 7.110 p.m. Present: -Messrs A. Aitkeu (Chairman), Stevenson, Preston Lloyd, Parkinson, .J. King and ,1. R. Hickson, V. Shannon, and A. N. Harrop (hon. s;. t etarv). Mr. Valentino was present h.v invitation. The minutes were confirmed and correspondence outward approved. INU ARB CORRESPONDENCE. From High School Board regretting inability to assist the technical classes more than they were doing.—Received. From Acting Rector, stating Mr. H. Williams had acted from 2(ith to 80th; Hid from then Miss Willia'ms had acted, staling the average attendance for the month was 290. ft primary, and -!Y|. secondary, out of a roli number ef ti 1.1.9 and 61 respectively, stating the heating apparatus needed attention ; drawing attention to necessity of draining portion of the playground.— Received. it was resolved to have ihc heating apparatus examined after •he winter was over. From Canterbury Board, stating the Inspector considered it advisable to have the ground at South Spit top dressed with tar. —deceived ; consideration deferred till next meeting. Tlie. Chairman referred to the loss sustained hv .Mr C. 11. Opie (Chairman of Canterbury Fducatiuii Board) by the recent death of his son (.Mr. Bona'id Dpi**), and he moved that the Coiiimiiteg convey to Mr. Opie, its deep sympathy with him in iiis ber-
eavement. Seconded by -Mr, Preston and carried. Accounts were passed for payment subject to being found correct. The Visiting -Committee (Air Parkinson) reported on a number of small matters requiring attention, deceived and approved. .Messrs Preston and Shannon were appointed visitors for the month. Til F. HECTORS!I IP. The Canterbury Board wrote forwarding the following list of applications for tin* position of Hector of Hokitika District High School:—Samuel Baird. Henry R. The Board selected the following three applicants for the consideration and selection of tlu* Committee: .John Brunlon, Christchurch, *l(> years of age, married, B J ; AI.A. gradid 3-1; 39;-J years service; at present head teacher, South brook school. Wilfred William Gorton of Akaroa, aged 37, married, AT.. AI.A; graded no 13; 30;', years service, second assistant, Akaroa J 3.11.5. Henry Leonidas Wilson, of Kaikoura, head teacher, aged 41 years, married I'Ll, graded No. 35; 18]t years of service. The meeting resolved into Committee to deal with the applications, when, it was unanimously resolved to recommend the nppointmo.nl of Air. John Bvunton, at present headmaster at South brook school. The Committee rose at S.-I5 p.m.
