[I’ER PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.] CLOSING ON ROYE. LONDON, August- 18. Reuter’s correspondent at British Headquarters states that there has been severe patrol fighting between Chaulnes and Rove during the past twenty-four hours. The Allies are gradually enclosing Roye and the French are within a few lnntdrod yards of the railway station. , The Germans have not made any heavy counter attacks since Thursday. Their heavy artillery has diminished suggesting the withdrawal of the heavies. Local guerilla fighting continues north of the Ancre. Our patrols are steadily advancing in the region of Hazelbruck The enemy are very vigilant with considerable artjllery activity. It is uncertain if this is merely a’ diversion. A later message states the British this morning attacked the Fourth Saxon Division which was holding Oultersteen. They captured the vllage aim also the ridge.
