A member of the union appealed against the decision of the. chief industrial Magistrate in ordering him to pay- £-5 9s (jd the balance of a union subscription, said to bo due. 1 The grounds of appeal "ere that lie was not a member of the union. Campbell joined under a til rent that all the other men would bo called ol the job, unless he joined. Judge Airlevis in reversing the Magistrate’s decision said bo expressed no opinion oi the rights and wrongs of military conscription. He simply said if it is slavery then industrial conscription was no better.
