[PER TRESS ASSOCIATION.—-COPYRIGHT.] A QUIETER TIME.' LONDON, August 14. Sir Douglas Haig reports that the Iq'attlefront is comparatively quiet, except for increased hostile artillerying. Wc took prisoners at several different points. Raiding and"patrol activity is reported south of the Scarpe and north-east of Robecq, in the neighbourhood of Vieux Berguin. Since the eighth the French First Army and the British Fourth Army captured over 28,000 prisoners, including 800 officers of whom eight axe Regi mental commanders. We also took 600 guns j including many heavies, several thousand machine guns, and numerous; trench mortars, also three complete trains and- a vast stock of stores.

Sir Douglas Haig’s aviation report states that there has been much airfighting . We brought down thirty hostile machines and drove down seven uncontrollable We dropped forty-five tons of bombs during day-time on Peronne and Cambrai stations. We were soon heavily assailed and twelve British machines arc missing.

We made a successful raid in the neighbourhood of A.vctto. Patrols progressed in the Vieux Berguin sector, and established our line eastward of the village, prisonoring a. number. Our lino was advanced slightly eastward of Metercn.
