[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. COPYRIGHT.] PRISONER. RECAPTURED. WELLINGTON, This Day. Richard Harold Edwin Giles, aged ■ 18 years, under sentence of four years reformative, and while awaiting further sentence on, two charges of theft, esccuted from Palmerston Gaol ou Sunday evening. He was arrested again at Oroua Downs on Wednesday, having broken into two dwellings meanwhile and committed further thefts. Ho was brought before the. Court to-day and pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to 12 months reformative for escaping from gaol and tw,.months on each charge of theft, to be concurrent with tho original sentence of four years.

PRISONERS’ PARCELS. WELLINGTON, August 9. The Acting Postmaster-General announces that the dispatch of parcels to prisoners of war in Turkey, suspension of which was notified last March, lias been resumed. Parcels may not bo posted from Now Zealand to prisoners of war in enemy or neutral countries, but. arrangements to that etui may bo made with tho High Commissioner from Now Zealand. WOMEN’S MOVEMENT. WELLINGTON, This Dny. In consequence of the statement that young women are being allowed to leave Australia for England, Hon. G. W. Russell said present instructions from the Imperial Government were thatno women were to bo allowed to leave Now Zealand, except in cnseß of extreme necessity. A communication had been sent to Australia asking for in- i formation and if it were found that j the regulation bad been relaxed for j 'that country, the Imperial Govern- j ment would be requested to grant the same concession to New Zealand.

PUBLIC SERVICE HOURS. WELLINGTON, This Day. Inr order to ease the tram traffic at rush hours. Government have agreed that public service employees shall begin at 8.30. and close at. 4.30. enabling them to get away before the 5 o’clock rush. NO TRACE OF ESCAPEES. WELLINGTON, This Day. There is no trace of the German escapees yet, though tlic island has been thoroughly searched. Ono theory is that they tried to swim and were drowned. The night was stormy and tho sea rough.

ON THE WAHILDA. FOUR NEW ZEALAND LOST. WELLINGTON, This Day. Advice has been received that the four men included in Thursday’s casualty list as missing, believed to be drowned, were victims of the German attack on the hospital ship Warildn. The names of the men are Privates A. H. Tompcrley, J. J. Knox. J. J. McGrath, and J. Everett. So far as is known they were the only New Zealanders involved in the disaster though others may have been in the hospital ship end mme off unscathed.
