There is on view at the shop of Messrs \V. 11. Tisdall and Co., Christchurch, a magnificent red stag’s head, shot in South Westland by Mr. John Cron. It is evidently from the North Otago herd, which is spreading on the western side of the main range. The horns are -lof inches in length, 45 inches in spread, and with a 5iJ inch boa in. Tho number of points is 20, and although the tops are irregular, there is a very even apt of lower tines, and the bend altogether forms a massive and bold-looking trophy. “There is no hope hero that tho war will be over shortly,” writes an American business man in the course of a letter to a friend in Wellington. “Instead,” he said, “it is figured that it may last for several years.
