IN SIBERIA. MONTREAL, August 5. The “New York Times” Pekin correspondent that General Saminoff was defeated by the Bolsheviks on tho Manchurian border. Ho retreated ten miles into Manchuria, pursued bv the enemy. The Chineso Government consider the situation’ dangerous and Yuan Shih’s trained army will aid tho Manchurian authorities. Tho correspondent adds that the Chin esc Government has received reports that the 'Tibetans have resolved to have German military advisers. GERMAN ACTION. AMSTERDAM, Aug. 5. Germany has-closed the Eastern frontier against Jews. Tho “Junische Rundschau” says this is tantamount to a declaration of war against Jewry.
SIBERIAN ATTITUDE. Received, this day at 8.45 a.m. WASHINGTON, Aug. G. The Russian Embassy, in a statement, states tho United Siberian Government, which superseded the Soviets, are endeavouring to organise a national army with the object to re-establish with tho co-operation of the Allies, a new bntllefront against Germany. Tho Siberian Government is on good terms with the Czocho-Slovaks. All classes in Siberia, favour the formation of a National Army. The Czocho-Slovaks have abandoned the plan to proceed to the west front, and will remain in Russia and fight the Germans and Austrians. The indications are that tho United Siberian Government will co-operate with tho American-Japaneso force sent to aid the Czecho-Slovaks.

Reports come from Moscow of a plot discovered against Tallin and Trotsky. A strong military guard accompanies Lenin in the streets. LANDED AT ARCHANGEL. WELLINGTON. This Day. The High Commissioner reports from London Gth August, at 1.5 p.m. Allied forces, naval and military landed at Archangel on Friday the 2nd. The Russian population are actively concurring and receiving them with enthusiasm.

The United Press Kandalnska correspondent states' that American troops among the Allied contingents have landed at Archangel. The international foroo included members of " - Russian Officers League. The presence of tlie Americans was enthusiastically received in Northern Russia and is considered a guarantee of the friendly intentions of the Allies. BATTLE IN RUSSIA. [AUSTRALIAN & N.Z. A telegram from Petrograd via Berlin, claims that the Soviet troops were victorious at Jaroslav, after a severe battle ,wherein five thousand counter revolutionaries were drowned, while fleeing across the Volga. A big battle is proceeding between the Red Guards and Czecho-Slovaks north of Dwina.
