REUTER'S REPORT.
[PUR PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.] ANOTHER REPORT. (Received This Day at 1.20 a.m.) ' LONDON, Aug. 5. Reuter’s correspondent at French Headquarters, writing in the afternoon of the sth, says the enemy’s artillery fire was very heavy on the whole line of the Vcsle, and the Germans are opposing a very vigorous resistance. Nevertheless, the French patrols crossed tho fiver at several points between Sennoise and Fismes, where the Africans crossed, and between Fismea and Metizon. The Germans on the north bank are abundantly supplied with ma-chine-guns. Between Muizon and Rheims, where we are firmly established on the south bank, there has been tho hardest fighting. A hot encounter occurred at Vauxes’ Farm, near Muizon, for the passago of the river. After it was captured the Germans sent across two detachments to retake it, both being repulsed after severe fighting. West of the Aisne, the enemy stubbornly resisted our passage of the river. On the Avre, the French occupied tlie whole line of a wooded hilL overlooking the steep river branches to Mesnil St. Georges. Hard fighting is in progress for Hargricourt on the leftbank, where the Germans are holding a railway station. The enemy are still in Morisel.
