Mr Park (Crown Prosecutor) said this being his Worship’s first appearance on the local Eeneh, he desired to extend him a welcome to the district. He hoped lie would have a good time and could promise that each member of the local Bar will do their best to assist in the carrying out. of bis duties, and he hoped his Worship would long be spared to preside over the Court. . Mr Wilson thanked Mr Park for the welcome, stating that every magistrate looked for the assistance of the Bar. He had every confidence that their relations would be of a friendly nature. He was quite satisfied that they would give every assistance. He was quite prepared to enjoy the experience of living in this district, which enjoyed much that was unique in New Zealand. He thanked them for their welcome, and trusted that nothing will pass between that they would have cause to regret. MAINTENANCE CLAIMS. An application was made for an allotment towards the upkeep of a child in a receiving home at Christchurch. Mr. Sellers appeared for defendant and said the only question to be decided was the amount to be paid. Order made for 7s 6d per week. A further application was made by tho Polico for an allotment, against the father, for whom Air. Wells appeared, for tho upkeep of another inmate of a receiving home. On application of counsel an adjournment was made for a fortnight. DEBT CASES. Win. McLean (Mr. Wells) v. Thos. Jones, claim £2. Judgment for plaintiff with costs 17s. Hnllenstoin Bros (Air. AVells) v. Jas. Gardyne, claim £2 17s Gd. Judgment for plaintiff with costs 10s. In a judgment summons ca'so plaintiffs did not appear and defendant was allowed 10s expenses.
