FRENCH ADVANCING. LONDON. July 29,
Correspondents at the French front states that the infantry, cavalry and tanks on Sunday followed up the artillery’s destructive work and cleared the enemy out of Fore on Tardenois towards the north-cast after hand to hand encounters.
The enemy’s destruction of bridges across the Ourcq has not greatly delated the French, who forded the shallow stream at several points.
The French are proceeding cautiously are not wasting men.
The cavalry located the Germans at Bois Meuniere, where it is anticipated that they will resist strongly.

Sc-rgy has been taken and retaken four times, but is now in French hands. The Fourth Prussian Guards attacked the Americans south of Serge. Ihe Americans stopped the assault dead, with heavy losses. The French surrounded Buzancy, but wore unable to bold it.

GERMAN NERVOUSNESS,
OVER THE RECENT RETREAT

The full significance of the retreat was only made known to the public in Berlin on Monday. It increased the extraordinary nervousness which was noteworth v for the past fortnight. Official newspapers continue to pretend that the loss of the ground is without importance. • Other newspapers, attacking General Ilindenburg, describe him as the leader of the whole gang opposed to General Ludendorff, who is leading the young staff officers.
