DANGER OF MINES.
STATEMENT BY NAVAL ADVISEB. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.j WELLINGTON, This Day. Captain Hall Thompson, Naval Adviser, in a statement says ho desires to emphasise that tho danger from mines on the New Zealand coast is no greater now than recently. Indeed, it is at a minimum. There is an additional danger, that owing to the time the mines have been down, the cables securing them to anchors may perish, resulting in mines breaking loose.
Therefore it is advisable to navigate confined tidal areas, such as Cook
Strait, in daylight. The statement is r*.ade in order to allay exaggerated rumours that are prevalent.
