MEETING AT KOKATAHI.

(Contributed)

Th.e meeting in connection with the proposed Cheese Factory was held in the School-room, Koiterangi, on Tuesday night and drew one of the largest audiences, held in the district- tor some time. .Mr 11. A. Boddirigton was voted to the chair, and briefly outlined the object of the meeting. Though slow at first the audience soon began to liven up, and some interesting discussions took place. A discussion centred on the skim milk fed calf. The Chairman. though a novice on this subject, held that it cost, up to 30s to rear a sound constituted woaner, while the expert opinion of the local butter factory manager argued that ho reared the very best animals at the small cost of 2s (3d per head. Another discussion was held over the familiar milk pail. The President of the A. and I*. Association, declared with much emphasis that his cows, when fresh, yielded a full pail of milk, every time he asked them. The Chairman contended that he lonld himself, only obtain such results by r vigorous application of the pump handle.

The opinion ns to the merits and demerits of cheese was that the Koiterangi rats were very partial to cheese, but the rats of Ivokatahi would take no other bait than the delicious and more palatable cream.

Amongst- the speakers of the evening, were, by special invitation, the Hon. If. 1,. Michel niul Mr Cl. Perry, of Hokitika, and Mr .1. Cameron, of Arahura, whose interesting addresses were much appreciated. The meeting finally decided to set jip a committee to go further into the matter. The singing of the National Anthem, and a collection in aid of the copper trail which realised 28s 6d, terminated a very interesting meeting.
