The deaiJi of Mrs Borkin, relict of the late Thomas Borkin of Rinni took place on Saturday morning. Tho deceased was a native of Tipperary, Ireland and 86 years of age. Her husband predeceased her some years ago. She leaves to sons (Thomas of Murchison and Patrick of Rimn). Mrs Slattery of 11 00 ft on is a -sister. The funeral took place this afternoon.

The many friends of John Condon of Knroro, will regret to hear of his dentil which took place at his residence on Saturday morning. The deceased who was a native of Tipperary Ireland, came to New Zealand about 45 years ago, and was, for tho greater part of that time, employed as a surface man on the Greyniouth-Ilokitika railway line. The deceased loaves a widow and grown-up family, of two sons and a daughter. One. son, William. was killed at. the front last year, whilst, another son <1 ied some few years ago.

A very old identity, and pioneer, in the person of AA'illiam Pollock, died in flic. Grey River Hospital on Saturday Air Pollock came to tlio Coast in the sixties ami has remained in Greymouth ever since. He was a single man and well-known.

Tlio. funeral of the late All’s D. J. Evans took place this ipnrning, and was attended by a very largo and representative gathering. Mourners came from all parts of the district, and all the local bodies and institutions and societies with which the bereaved husband is connected wore fully represented. The Lady Liverpool Committee, of which deceased was Vice-President, attended in a body. The cortege was a very long one. The pall-bearers were the County Chairman and Councillor DulT, Alessrs C. J. Nightingale and A. E. Benjamin. • The largo attendance testified to the general grief and sorrow at tho loss of such a sterling citizen and worthy helpmate. There was a largo number of floral tributes from public bodies, various institutions and societies, and from personal friends. The Eov. Dr. Holloway conducted tbe service at; All Saints’ Church and the graveside.

American papers report the arrival in that, country of nine British Army officers on ft military mission. The “New York Times” says that the officers will he attached to the Staff of the British Embassy and Special High Commissioner. Tho mission,' adds the ‘‘Times,” will bo concerned, not merely with military matters, hut with shipbuilding, financial, and social activities.
