The General Manager of the National Bank 'of Now Zealand Ltd., has received a cable from the London Board, advising him that the annual meeting of the Bank will be hold in London on the 24 th July, when it is proposed to declare a dividend of six per cent for the half year, and a bonus to shareholders of one percent on the paid-up capital, equalling 13 per cent for the year ended 81st March last. Ten thou*, sand pounds had been allocated to the reduction of bank premises accounts; fifteen thousand will bo added to the reserve which will then stand at £703,000 ; and £4,550 has been carried forward. A CANTERBURY PIONEER. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Obituary—Samuel Charles Farr, aged 92 years. He arrived at Akaroa early in 1850, and liis marriage was tho first in Canterbury.

EXPRESS ENGINE DERAILED TAUMARANUI, This Day. The Auckland-Wellington express this morning ran into a slip near Taringamutu station, a few miles from bore. The engine as derailed, and from Taumaramii they obtained another engine. The train was delayed, for five hours, reaching Taumarunui at about seven o’clock.

Hewitt’s (S.M.) fine two storey residence, lately owned by Dr Sherman was totally destroyed by fire on Saturday evening, including his art collection and law library. The insurance? amount to £1,850.
