A MODERATE ENTRY

Messrs Matson and Co. report as follows regarding the above salos on Wed. nbsdny.
Fat Cattle—There was an average yarding and the quality as good, with one or two outstanding pens. Freezing buyers operated at increased limits, and there as a good sale all round. Extra steers sold to £2fi; prime CIO 10s to £2(1: light and unfinished. £.'lll 10s to £ls l()s; cows and heifers CIO 10 to CIO 10s; and up to Cl? 5s for extra. Store cattle.—There was a small
yarding with several pens of useful 3 and 1-year old steers. The demand was good and the bulk of the yarding as sold. Pens of 3 and 4 year steers sold from til l 10s to £l3 os; 2.V year old steers £9 10s to £lO 10s. A nice line of IS-months and 2-ycar old steers sold at £K. Dry cows L'O to £9 10s. Fat sheep—There was a comparatively small yarding, though a good deal larger than last week. Prices all round although not up to last week’s famine prices, were better than the previous week. Freezers were .operating sparingly, as the yarding was scarcely sufficient for butcher’s purposes. Best wethers sold up to 50s; prime 40s to 4Ss fid ; lighter 34s fid to 395. Ewes sold on a. similar basis.
Store sheep.—There was a small market, mostly of North Island owes and Southland wethers. Prices "ere equal to late week’s rates. Best forward wethers sold to 345. North Island ewes in lamb. 20s to 27s fid. The demand was weak owing to snow still lying in many parts of the country.
