ST MARY’S CLUB.

VALEDICTORY

There was a large attendance at St, Mary’s Club rooms last evening. The tournament resulted as follows. Ladies Ist (set of cups and sauc-ers) ATrs Keller; ladies 2nd. (tin coffee), Airs Callao ; gent’s Ist (set of sieve links), Afr. H. Harker; gent’s 2nd. (a fountain pen) Air. T. Pipson.

After supper had been handed around. Rev. .Father Clancy explained that the- gathering that evening was for a special purpose, namely to say farewell to a member of the Club. He need not mention names for all regretted that they were about to lose Air. Percy Calkin. During Air. C'allan’s term in Hokitika, he had proved a great help to the Club and a willing worker in the many entertainments the Club bail successfully undertaken. He congratulated Perc-y on his promotion and wished him. ALrs C'allan, and the little ones success and happiness in their new home. Tie then asked Afr. .1. Cahill to make the presentation which consisted of a handsome portmanteau.

Air. Cahill on behalf of the Club expressed the best of wishes to Mr and Airs (itlian for their future liappinAlusical honors prevented the guest from replying, but on rising to respond he was heartily received. On behalf of his wife and himself, he heartily thanked them for their gift. He. did not know what he had one to deserve such an excellent present. It would always serve to remind him of the good times lie had spent in Hokitika. Three hearty cheers were then given for the Callan family. A song by Air. Hogan, (encored) was followed by dancing, which concluded an enjoyable evening. The music for the dance was kindly sun plied by Aliss 0. Brecce, and Air. T. FI conn it controlled those on the floor.
