WELLINGTON, July 9,

Tho Trotting Conference at its meeting decided that the power to appoint judges should be left in the hands of the President. An amendment proposing to leave the matter with the Executive was defeated by a large majority; It was decided that the cost bo oil owner's and the responsibility of notifying haiidirnppers of horses’ performances. •

The question as to whether starting he by seconds or yards was left over ■for the year. It was rc-solved to recommend the incoming Executive to review- the permits reduced under war conditions, and if a reduction is necessary for 11120, the reduction would bo a fair proposition if made from one day permits, then two day permits and more following. A now rule was adopted as follows: That a provident fund fee of £1 must be paid on every horse direct to the - Trotting Association before such horse shall be eligible for any trotting race under the New Zealand rules of trotting in the Dominion, and any owner nominating a horse 'for which a provident fund fee has not been paid shall he fined £5 for every offence.

The Trotting Conference elected the following officers —Presidents, Mr. John Rowe (Onehunga); Vice-Presi-dent. W. J. Drove. Executive, Messrs E. Roberts, C. Mackav, and C. M. 01livior.

After the election of officers, tho chairman referred to the expressed intention of Mr Selig to retire at the end of the season from' active interest in {rutting control, after 21 years presidency of the Trotting Association. Ho moved a motion expressive of appreciation of Mr Selig’s services, and hoping he would see his way to continue in the position. Mr Gore (Vice-President) endorsel the remarks, and said no one had done more for trotting than Mr Selig. Mr Roberts (member of the Executive.) followed in tho same, strain. The motion was carried unanimously, with acclamation.

Mr Soli ft replied at length. He said rd had fully intended making this his last year, but with such a unanimous vote of confidence and the request from the Clubs ho would consider, it on hib return to Christchurch.
