THE NEXT BALLOT.

5000 NAMES TO BE DRAWN I The Defence Minister stated on Friday that tho next ballot of men of Class C. of he reserve will contain the names of 5000 men, a reduction of fifty per cent, on the number of recent ballots. He said that it was considered that the big ballots drawn in recent months bad made up the deficiency that would have been created by the extra commitments entered into in response to the call made for more men when the Germans opened their big offensive some months ago. He was not, however, ready to say anything almut the future rate of reinforcements yet, although ho hop’d to be in a position to do so in tho course of a few days.

The drawing will commence on Tuesday, July I6th.
