HOSTILE RAID REPULSED
LONDON, July -8
Sir Douglas Haig reports:—We repulsed an attempted hostile raid on the morning of the 7tli, near Locre.
There has been hostile artillerying and trench mortar activity in the Bet-hunt? sector.
Three German aeroplanes were d I roved and one driven clown uncontrollable. One British machine is missing. Seventeen tons of bombs were dropped on various targets during the last twentv-four hours.
OFF 1C lAI REPORT. This Day at 9 50 a.m."i LONDON, July 8. General Haig reports the Australian advanced their line slightly on a front of three thousand yards, astride of the Somme, capturing prisoners. Scottish troops successfully raided southward of La Basse canal. The Australians are entrenched eastward of Hazelbrook. Hostile artillery was active astride flic Somme, following our operations, also westward of Beaumont Hamel, ir. the neighbourhood of Bethune.
