TELEGRAPH LINE RESTORED

The snowstorm which set in on Sunday, and continued till Tuesday, playea havoc with the telegraphs, train, ana electric power sendees, and matters have not yet reached normal.

The Lake Coleridge current has been off' siuce Sunday, and the city is practically in darkness.

The Tramway Board and City Council have been able to supply a limited amount of power, but not sufficient tt enable industries to keep going, and in many factories a compulsory holiday has had to be observed. To-day communication was obtained with Lake Coleridge a Russian, Boris Daniels, making the power house oi skis.

Oue transmission line is free of faults and power will probably be available to-morrow.

There is up to six feet of snow in the country and heavy losses of stoca arc feared.

Miles of telegraph wires are down and the train service on many lines is dislocated.

The West Coast train is snow bound at Waddington, while others are held up on branch lines.

Telegraphic communication with Wellington has boon established via the West Coast, to-day, a fact which Imu caused general satisfaction.

Frost has succeeded the snow ( making the restoration of interrupted services difficult.

The electric supply is again avail able from hake Coleridge, one transmission line being restored late last night. Telegraphic communication with the North Island is confined to one line, the West Coast route, and there is no hopeful news concerning the East Coast lines.

Tile weather has now cleared but reports state a serious loss to sheep ers is expected, particularly in the back country.
