JOHANNESBURG, July 1
Police troops fixed bayonets and entered the Native compounds and secured possession of a large number of sticks and other weapons, usually kept handy in the event of tribal affrays. They arrested 71 ringleaders. The Natives submitted quietly.
It is expected that the majority will abandon the attitude of passive resistance and resume work.
It is apparent that the . movement of a general strike of natives has failed.
