LATE LOCALS.
The local Telegraph Office reported a stoppage of connection with Christchurch this afternoon, there being a heavy fall of snow on Arthur’s Pass which has interrupted the telegraph communication. During the social at Kanieri Public Ilall on Friday last it was remarked that four West Coast mothers, who were represented at the enjoyable gathering, had contributed seventeen sons to serve at the Front. The names are Mesdames Comport, (5); Frickleton, (5;; Wells (4); Vroblfski (3). The comic opera “Paul Jones” is to bo taken in hand by the local amateurs, to be produced early in October. Mr. Tom Pollard will bo the producer, but he is relvifig on Mrs Stavelcy to help with the "main preparation of the work, which will be on a specially attractive scale. Rehearsals begin to-morrow night at the Princess Theatre at 7.39 o’clock, when all who took part in the “Gondoliers” are desired to attend. Each iwrformaner is requested fo bring a note book and lead pencil. Mr. Pollard purposes taking special pains in the staging of the opera. Tile _ work chosen is sure to be popular with the public, so that all round tho entertainment will be a most attractive one.
