BERLIN BOURSE DEPRESSED
LONDON June 29,
The “Morning Post’s’’ financial correspondent refers further to the heavy fall in the value of the German mark in neutral countries, while the Austrian kroner has completely collapsed. The fall is attributed to Herr Kuhlmann’s speech, following the Austrian defeat together with the adverse crop prospects.
Reports last night stated that the Berlin Bourse was depressed. The correspondent adds not to attach over-much significance to the developments, though it is equally foolish to ignore them.
REDUCED RATION. (Received This Dav at 9.25 a.m.) LONDON, June 30. A headquarters correspondent says the German Army rations have been reduced from Monday. The new* scale is entirely fatless, despite the cold nights.
GERMAN FOOD. (Received This Dav at 9.50. a.m.) AMSTERDAM, Juno 29. The ‘Neuvre Rotterdamsche Courant’ states a large part of Germany’s cats and dogs have been killed, owing to food scarcity. A majority of the poultry is slaughtered and cows are insufficiently fed. If they do not yield the prescribed quantity of milk they are slaughtered. A worse fate has befallen horses, great numbers starving. Pig breeding is threatened with utter ruin and only sheep farming has more favourable con. ditions.
