WHEAT STEAMER SUNK. SYDNEY, June 8. News is to hand that the well-known Howard Smith cargo steamer Era has been torpedoed and sunk. The Era was requisitioned to take a
cargo of wheat Home from the Commonwealth some weeks ago, and all the members of the crew joined the vessel in Australia. No particulars have, been received by the company, but it woulu appear that the vessel and her cargo have been totally lost. The Era was specially designed for tb Australian coast trade, and was employed between Sydney, Newcastle, at-Inter-State ports.
