Successful applicants will be required to pass a medical examination, jand will then be posted into the Expeditionary Force, Home Service Branch, and will be transferred to the Foreign Service Branch upon becoming eligible for active service under the Military Service Act. While employed on home service their rates of pay will be as under : In camp or barracks 5s per day and found. Outside camps or barracks 5s per day, with 4,s in lieu of lodging or messing. Married allowance of Is per day for wife. ■ Children’s allowance of 9d. per day per child for each child under 16, up to a maximum of 2/3 per day. Military Police will draw extra pay at the rate of Is per day. Clerks employed in Camp will receive working pay up to 2s per day according to proficiency. Promotion carrying extra pay will be made on merit in accordance with establishments.

Free clothing, boots, and medical attention will be provided in all cases. Applicants must state date of birth, whether married or single, and the number of their children. Preference in/all cases will be given to returnedsoldiers. Applications may be made personally, or by letter, to the Officers Commanding Groups at Defence Offices at Christchurch, Timaru, Bangiora, Greymouth and Nelson. D. C. W.
