LEAGUE AND BOARD.
MR MITCHELL’S POSITION. WELLINGTON,, June 10. A special meeting of the National. Executive of the Second Division Lea- 1 gue issued an official statement setting out that the minutes show that Mr Mitchell was appointed to the Financial Assistance Board to carry out the League’s policy, to width he agreed, including a two-guinea minimum for the wife only of ft soldier. The Minister of Defence| by letter of March 22nd, accepted Mr Mitchel as the League's representative on that Board. His withdrawal was caused by the policy laid down by tho Minister of Defence, particulariiy regarding the net income for wives of soldiers, and an attempt was made to justify the policy whereby
the wives of of soldiers who are mothers are deprived of the full sopara-tion allowances. Air Mitchell’s resignation was without any personal reservation. Subsequently tbe Minister sent for Mr. j Mitchell, and asked him to accept re- j nomination, although he is a Class B. ; reservist, 'and is due for examination in | a few days. In view of all the circureu i stances, and the fact that Air. Mitchell has finally decided to sacrifice his al-1 legiance to tho League, the National; Executive has called for his immediate j resignation as a member. ;
