SUBMARINE MENACE.
U-BOAT MENACE. (Received Thin Dav at 9.50. a,m.) WASHINGTON, June 7. The opinion is veering to the belief that the Germans intend to kpep up the U-Boat menace in American waters, if possible, by sending relays to America. A wireless warning of expected attacks sent out before Saturday, saved many ships. The. Captain of the Harpathian which is a 4500 tenner, Bays a small UBoat discharged a torpedo. He saw other larger U-Boats nearby. ANOTHER TANKER SUNK. (Received This Day at 9.50. a.m.) NEW YORK, June Bth. A wireless from a patrol boat- states a tanker was sunk on Friday one -hundred miles off Cape Hinblpen on the Delaware coast. The authorities have wirelessed, ordering northward shipping to port. i GERMAN DEVASTATION. Reuter’s Telegrams. Received, this day at 8.45 a.m. PARIS, June 7. The Bishop of Soissons declares the Germans have destroyed completely one hundred churches arid plundered or partially destroyed a hundred others in Soissonß district. The Cathedral suffered badjv. The Germans are stripping the country methodically, taking everything to Germany. He protested against the practice of the German army of deliberately killing old men, wo men and children when fleeing from the occupied districts.
ANOTHER GERMAN CRIME. (Received This Day at. 11.25. a.m.) LONDON, June 9. The “Morning Poet’’ stntes that the Koningen Regentes was torpedoed. The Dutch naval authorities investigated the affair, and are convinced tho vessel was attacked. The new German crime has produced indignation in Holland, where it is believed the British delegates were aboard the Koning Regentes as at first announced. .

The Quarter-master saw a tor- J pedo at two hundred yards distance np- j preaching in a slanting direction. He could not possibly mistake it. Altogether five of the crew state they saw the torpedo approaching. They are j positive the boat was not mined. Mines are rare in that locality. V SHIP S~UAUNCRTED. (Received This Dav at 11.25. a.m.) WASHINGTON, June 9. Seventy one vessels including thirtytwo wooden were launched during May, of a tonnage of 344,000.
