AN ITALIAN SUICIDE

Guisseppe Feltrinelli, a banker, the brother of Carlo Feltrinelli, has suicided. His fortune is estimated at ten millions sterling. Carlo Feltrinelli was arrested on March 2nd in connection with the contraband silk scandal, wherein wealthy Italians were concerned in a scheme selling goods to Switzerland destined for the enemy.
SLUMP IN TIN MARKET.

There has been a heavy fall in prices in the tin market. The quotation has reached £330 10s a ton. Other metals are unchanged. SOUTH AFRICAN WOOL. CAPETOWN, June 5. As a result of the Government’s refusal of the request of a renewal of the Imperial Government's wool purchase offer, the situation is causing anxiety. A large quantity of wool is awaiting shipment and a heavy fall in prices is predicted when the new clip comes in. JAPANESE INTERVENTION. [LONDON TIMES SERVICE —COPYRIGHT] TOKIO, June sth. DAMAGED IN COLLISION.

She. had some exciting experiences, an explosion following the collision. There was considerable loss of life. MORE WAGES WANTED. n LONDON June 5. A. conference of the Miners’ Federation held in I.ondon to-day, unanimously decided to demand a substantial increase in wages to meet the increased cost of living. SOCIALISTS AND PEACE. A conference of Social Democrats at Vienna appealed to the Central Powers’ Governments to offer a general peace on the following terms: Firstly, establishing a League of Nations, general disarmament and settlement of differences ,bv arbitration • secondly, renunciation of annexations and indemnities; thirdly, grant of self-determination to all border nations separated from -Russia. The conference demands the immediate summoning of the Reichrath to enable deputies to examine the peace treaties before ratification. QUESTION OF EVIDENCE. (Received This Day at 9.00. a.m.) LONDON 1 , June 6. During another Old Bailey criminal libel trial to-day, a discussion* arose regarding the admissibility of <c retain matters. Justice Darling, alluding to criticisms, explained that if there was any doubt, he preferred to admit the evidence, lest a refusal should result in an acquittal on appeal, whereas if admitted it may-have some bearing on the case. '
