TII.E BRITISH NAVY, time changes views. AFCKLAND, Jiwie 1. Sir James Allen, in a speech at a social given by the Auckland branch of the. Navy League, said -Non- Zealanders had reason to be ashamed ot the small sum they had .contributed to the upkeep of the British Navy. Ac certainly had made a small beginning, hut we would have to take a much larger share in the maintenance of the Navy in future, in regard to both men and money. In the time to come, also, wv would'have to face the question not oidv of contributing to the cost of the ships, but also finding ships ourselves. This might be a long n ay ahead, but it assuredly would come. in the meantime ho believes New Zealand must provide more money to afford our young men the opportunities < f taking their part in the future naval development. Of course no such development would he sound, if it did not provido for the right of the Mother Country to concentrate the whole of these ships as part of the Imperial Navy, where such concentrations are needed.

TRAIN AND MOTOR COLLIDE. MASTER.TON, Juno 1. A soldiers’ train collided with a motor ear at Feathcrston on Friday evening when three occupants of the car were badly injured. One, a soldier named David Hamill, was admitted to. the military hospital and two civilians, Charles Shipage and Robert Hamm were sent to the Grey town hospital, The injuries are- not likely to prove fatal.
