[per press association.—copyright.] DARING ROBBERIES. SYDNEY, May 31. A series of daring daylight robberies occupying the attention of the police indicate the presence of a clever gang at work. At mid-day a man grabbed notes valued at £4OO from a counter in tho E.S.A. Bank, and escaped with the aid of two of whom are believed to have been arrested.
At Melbourne, two masked armed robbers held up two clerks, who were about to enter tho Government Printing Office with over £4OOO of employees wages. They grabbed the bags and attempted to escape on a motor cycle, but could not start it. They fired a shot into the petrol tank to pursuit. They kept the crowd at bay with revolvers, and succeeded in escaping, al though they dropped one bag containing £3,000 which was recovered.
PRICE OF BUTTER, SYDNEY, May 31. The wholesale and retail price of butter in New South Wales has been increaed a half-penny per pound from Monday. 1 PRICE OF MEAT. . SYDNEY, May 31. The Inter-State Commission recommends the Imperial contract for' meat less freezing charges bo fixed at a maximum of the wholesale price.
