On Saturday Mr B. Ward, County Chairman, visited tlio Rimu Riding in respect to various road matters arising out of mining developments. At Upper Seddon’s Terrace the road., to Overlook Hill, is threatened by prospective operations, and the question of constructing a deviation lias a?’,sen. This is a matter the Council will require to deal with shortly , and the Chairman’s visit was to familiarise himself with the situation. Lower Adair’s road was visited also, and 1 here some Attention is required to the existing road to facilitate traffic which has .been interrupted temporarily by dredging operations. A road of some fifty-five chains, vith a bridge across the Kanieri river, is required to give access to the mining field, and a line of road, is to be laid off as soon’ ns the weather permits, and proposals for construction prepared by the County Overseer, Air Afitlner. In the meantime the local body is in negotiation with the Government as.to ft grant for the construction of this important work. While in the Rimu Riding. Air Ward toolc note of the position of Back Creek where it is contemplated establishing an electric pumping plant to serve the, Seddon’s Terraco gold-field. The proposal mooted is to place a lock on the Back Creek drain for the purpose of holding the swamp waters for pumping purposes, instead of drawing the water from the Hokitika river which would be a larger proposition. The visit enabled the Chairman to see the actual position for himself with a tview to advising the Council when tile question came up for determination later on.
