RECEPTION AT HUMPHREYS
(FTom a Correspondent)
Our Monday night last despite the inclemency of the weather, the crowd rolled up to welcome another returned soldier in the person of Mr Gordon Hareourt, only son of Mr and Mrs Gordon Harcourt of Humphreys who has been wounded and gassed. Proceedings commenced with the light fantastic merrily tripped to music, discoursed by Mr Geo. Harcourt, while Mr Adams in his usual efficient style had charge of the floor. Songs were rendered by Messrs Harcourt and Walton, and after a couple of hours pleasantly spent supper was announced and the good things provided by the ladies done ample justice to.
Mr Agnew then took advantage of the interval and on behalf of the residents welcomed home the hero to his native land, after fighting the good fight and called for three hearty cheers which were lustily given also “He’s A Jolly Hood Fellow.” Mr Harcourt then thanked Mr Agnew for his kind remarks and the people for the kindness they had shown him.
Dancing was kept up until a late hour when the singing of the National Anthem brought the evening to a close.
