The North Otago Winter Meeting was held in fine weather, and the course was in splendid condition. There was a good attendance. The tote handled £12,080, compared with £10,452 last year. The following are the l-esults: — EMPIRE HANDICAP —Silver Shield 1, Jeannot 2, Golden Prince 3. Won by a length. Time 2.35 3-5. __ TRIAL PLATE.—Don Spec 1, ixilL iney 2, Jingo 3. Won by four lengths. Time 49. 1-5. „ OAMARU CUP.—Mohawk 1, Golden King 2, Tremena 3. Won by a long head. Time 1.42 1-5. ELECTRIC' lIANDICAP .—Ardmore 1, Mortham 2, Hornbeam 3. Won by a length. Time 1.2. The White King expired at the conclusion of the race. UERNBROOK HANDICAP. —Night Alarm 1, John Reilly 2, Warhawk 3. A close finish. —Time 2.11. An enquiiy as held at the conclusion or the Fernbrook Handicap and E. J. Ludlow, trie rider of John Reilly, was fined £5 and disqualified for three months for striking C. Dawson, the rider of Night Alarm, during the running of the race.
