[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT-] APPEAL DISMISSED. WANGANUI, May loth. The Wanganui District Conimitttee to-night heard the appeal by Jockey W. Young against tho decision of the Mnnawntu Jockey Club, disqualifying him for two years for pulling Ibex in tho Woodley Handicap at the Manawntu meeting. The appeal was dismissed.
DEATH OF GENERAL DAVIES WELLINGTON, May 15. The Acting-Premier received official confirmation of tlto death of General Davies. The message says that General Davies died in London on Saturday last. PA HOT C RIOT CHARGES. THE SENTENCES. » NEW PLYMOUTH, This Dav. At” tho Supreme Court this morning, the Chief Justice delivered sentences in the Paliotu riot ease. Te Whiti was sentenced to 18 months and fined £2O, to be paid on his release, in default a further six months. Six other Maoris received sentences of six months imprisonment, and a £lO fine. Four others to four months and £7 fine. Six others were fined £5 and two years probation. One other was fined £2 2s and 2 years probation.
