OTIRA TUNNEL.

SIR WILLIAM FRA-SER’S VISIT. OTIRA May 8.

The Hon Sir William Fraser, Minister of Public Works, accompanied by Mr Dinnie engineer in charge of the tunned, Mr G. Witty, M.P-, Mr R. Semple, .and several other local union officials; paid a visit to the tunnel works this morning. In the iafternoofi the Minister received a deputation, introduced by Mr Witty, from the Otira Workers’ Union. A number of suggestions were brought before the Minister, chief of which were the reinstatement of the boy who was recently dismissed, and an increase oi wages of the men .employed on tne works.. . , _ This evening the Minister receive deputation from th© Otira Hospital Committee, protesting against tlio closing of the hospital. Tho Minister returns overland , o Christchurch in the morning on his fray to Wellington.
