APPEAL COURT. WELLINGTON, May 6. .Judgment was delivered in the Appeal Court in Lord Inchcapo v. Minister of Stamps. This was an appeal against the assessment of Stamps duty in respect to the transier ol certain Union .Company shares, for consideration, partly in cash and partly for an amount of deferred stock in the P and 0 Coy. . The question' at issue was whether duty was payable on tlie cash part of the consideration or on the value oi stock also. , The Court hold tho transaction came under Section 2 of the Stamps Duties Amendment Act 1913, and duty, lVas payable on both. The appeal therefore was dismissed. . , (
In the Wellington City Council v. Karori Borough Council case, affecting the extension of a cemetery, the appeal was dismissed.

ANOTHER MINE DISCOVERED

The Minister of Defence announces that another mine has been discovered off Cape Farewell. This one was at a lower depth than those previously found. It lias been exploded.
AN OFFICER’S DEATH
) CHRISTCHURCH. May 4
News has been received in Christchurch of the death in England, from meningitis, of Lieut.-Colonel C. F. D. Cook, D. 5.0., of the Wellington Infantry Regiment. Lieut.-Colonel Cook was the elder son of tho late Professor Cook, of Canterbury College. He was educated at Christ’s College and Canterbury College, and was practising his profession as a solicitor in the North Island when he left for the front as a captain . in the Wellington Regiment. He was a prominent athlete.
TRAWLERS IN TROUBLE. ’ AUCKLAND, This Day
Two steam trawlers, the Countess, and Muriel, owned by Sanford Ltd were arrested by the Inspector of Fisheries on trawling within tho prohibited area in tho Gulf. Both trawlers are allowed to continue trawling,. but the Department does not waive the right to ultimate seizure, and if proceedings arc taken and a conviction is recorded,,the value of fish will he claimed by the Department. The masters of both vessels deny trawli area.
