ON THE WESTERN FRONT.
POSITION IMPROVED.
(Received This Day at 12.25. p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 6.
The British War Mission state that with th'o French and British reserves now available, the situation on tho West Front is considerably improved, though the situation is certain to do anxious for some time. Despite the terrible ordeal, the bohavious of tho drafts, who, for the first time, were under a deluge of shells and war, was splendid.
THE AUSTRALIANS GAIN. (Received this day at 1.30 p.m.) i LONDON, May G. A 3.45 p.m. message from the United Press correspondent says tho Australians, by two brilliant actions between the Ancre and Somme rivers advanced their line on a twelve hundred yards’ front. Many Germans were killed and 15 taken prisoners. GERMAN REPORT. (Received this clay at 1.30 p.m.l AMSTERDAM, May 6. The “ Telegraph ” states seventy Germans were killed wounded, in the Zeebrugge raid. Germans have compelled a thousand Belgians to re. pair the damage.
