The "remaining members of Class B, Second Division, about bOOO, will he called up en bloo by Gazette of May 21. Tho date of the first ballot for class C will probably ho Juno.
MEAT IN STORE. AUCKLAND, May 3. Some days ago Sir Joseph Ward made strong representations to the British Government to have the payments of meat held on their behalf paid for in storage. At present there is something ovOr £4,000,000 sterling worth of meat in the refrigerating stores throughout the country, and the difficulty of securing shipment of it. to the Mother Country renders it dosirable that the payment for tho same should bo made) without prolonged delay. It would relieve a large amount of advances to enable many people who are being financed for their meat whilst it is being held in store to invest in tho War Loan. Sir Joseph stated that up to now no reply had been received, which ho thought was a good sign, but lie sincerely hoped that before long the representations made by liim would be successful.

Joseph Ford was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment for failing to enrol in the Expeditionary Force ivserve. ABENCE FROM. PARADE. PALMERSTON N., May 2. Alister Beaton, a reservist from Moutoa, was found guilty by courtmarital of failing to attend medical parade, and was sentenced to twentyeight days’ detention.
ARBITRATION COURT’S DECISION
CHRISTCHURCH, May 1. The Arbitration Court gave judgment on the application of the employees under the builders, contractors, »„d general labor*.* for an increase, in the war bonus from 10 to M per cent. The judgment, states that the court, after careful consideration of statistics, is satisfied that the genera living conditions do not substantially differ now. from those, existing when the award was made. . The majority of the court, therefore, declared that tho application should be dismissed.
DROPPED DEAD. WAKATANE, This Day. Henry H. Metcalfe, civil engineer of dnginoer to Wl.aK.ton. Harbour Board, dropped dead on the beach while inspecting the liarbou ■works'yesterday afternoon. MAORI BALLOT. WELLINGTON, This Day. ’ /The First Ballot in the Native Expeditionary Force reserve was taken yesterday. The ballot applied to Ist Division Maori residents in Waikato Maniapoto recruiting district. l hundred names were drawn from a roll containing 420 names. The Gazette containing the names ot tllo looted men will be published next week. First division men in the native, reserve are a small proportion of tho total number of Maori militaiy age, ing to- the custom of early, marriages, which prevails among Maoris.
