AN UNPLEASANT INCIDENT.
One of the most lamentable scenes (says the N.Z. Times) ever witnessed i:i Wellington was enacted at the annual dinner and reunion of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association in the Town Hall concert chamber on Auzac night. Before half of the lengthy programme had been gene through the gathering had to be formally brought to a close by the playing of the National Anthem. The Prime Minister (Mr Massey), who made an heroic effort to make himself heard above the din, had his speeclt drowned in the uproar. It is extremely regrettable that in spite of aU'fhe efforts of the officials of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, who, to give them due credit, did their very utmost to maintain some semblance of order, it was absolutely impossible to hear more than a few scattered fragments of the.speeches Less than half the toast list was gone through, and that only in a very disconnected fashion, it is only fair to the officials to say thiir, the stqte of affairs was hi no way due to them,' the disorder probably being due to the fact that numerous reunions of .old males had taken place during the day. and many already had dined not wisely, lint, too well. ‘ j
