CARELESS AGENTS.
The careless'.manner in which the railway authorities handle, valuables, has been exemplified by a disclosure made at Sydney the other day. An official report has been received by the Chief Railway Commissioner stating that a guard on a western-bound train, about a fortnight back, having occasion to go to a bullion chest in his van, wd's surprised to find therein two bags of money which had not been committed to his care. As he could not account for their piesence, he handed them and their contents over to the station master at Newbridge. -On inquiries being made, it was found that five days previously the bags, which contained about
to pay railway employees on the Coonabarabran line, had been despatched from Sydney. They had never been delivered, and had lain in the bullion chest untaiupered with while the van was hauled over hundreds of miles of country during five successive days. An inquiry is proceeding.
