Tho eighth death in London within a week is reported from botulism, caused by a germ attacking the nerve centres. The germ is found in undercooked meat, tinned foods and cheese. Holland, with Germany menacing her on one side, and the Entente adopting a firm attitude on the other, is in sore straits.

The “Daily Telegraph’s Hague correspondent says the Ministers have, announced that the sand and gravel question has not taken an unfavourable course, but the situation is serious. This is interpreted to mean that Government is agreeing to the German demand, but fears complications with the enemy.
The public is alarmed by the German newspapers sudden wave of threats, and the advocacy of ruthless ness.
HOLLAND’S POSITION. ■ AMSTERDAM, April 28
The “T.vd’s” correspondent in Germany referring to the position of Holland says it will depend on the course of events how far reaction against the increased powers of militarists will make itself felt. As the extent of the huge sacrifices becomes known it evokes everywhere fresh , disquiet. When the energetic participation of American’s falsifies the Government prophecy that submarines will prevent transport of American’s the popular disappointment will assume a sharper form.

A FRENCH TRAITOR. 'Received, This Dav at 8.50. a.m.)' PARIS, April 28. The M arquis Decquivilley lias been arrested for treason and espionage. He served for several years in shipyards, notably with Gaubet, the submarine inventer. It is alleged that he sent submarino plans to Germany,- enabling them to build similar vessels. It is alleged the marquis, for some years, was in the Krupps pay. He frequently visited Kiel before the war.
