GREAT SLAUGHTER CONTINUES
A GALT.ANT STAND,
LONDON, April 18. The United Press correspondent writing at 3.30 p.m. says with sullen perserverance, the Germans continue to throw troops against the northern flank of Lys salient. Thei ’e was a ceaseless struggle all day on Wed lies day. The enemy were raked by the British fire from a cluster of hills southwestward of Ypres. Marshal Zudohna’s troops attempting to advance over the evacuated area of Ypres salient, were caught and smashed in the old shell torn battlefield. Northwards and southward of Zonnebeke, General Haig’s liigli explosives dispersed three-successive waves, that were endeavouring to reach Remind Hill.
The British 1 inc remained unwavering. Another assault in the same region was pressed back and a British attack restored the situation.
