WOULD FLOAT ALONE.
“It would he too ludicrous for words,” declared Sir Joseph Ward in the House ol! Representatives last evening, “ for anyone to believe that Parliament could go on sitting during the absence of two leaders at a time such as this.”
“ What would happen if you were torpedoed?” interjected a member. (Laughter). “In that case,” said the Finance Minister, “ the country would need to have a National Govei’nment established with two other leaders, and I have no doubt they would make a good selection. But at the present time the point is that Mr Massey and I happen to be the two leaders; and that being so, if we were torpedoed l t would be impossible to sink us.” (Laughter.)
A member : “ You are too blown up.” (Laughter.) Another member (sotto voce) : “ Sir Joseph would float a loan.”
