HEAVY ENEMY ATTACK.
FIGHTING ON LYS AND LOWE
THE POSITIONS HELD. (Received This Day, at 12.55 .a.m.) LONDON, 10. At midnight, General Haig reported —Following the bombardment already reported, the enemy in the morning attacked in between Armentieres and Ypr e s-Conunes Canal. There uas heavy fighting all day in this sec tor on the whole front. In yesterday’s attack north of La Bassee canal the enemy north of Armontiores, pressed us back to a line from \\ ystchaSetc-Messincs (Ridge—<Ploegsteert. The enemy, who forced their ua.v into Messines, were driven out •' counter-attack. After a prolonged struggle south of Armentieres, the enemy established himself on th 0 left bank of the Lys, east of Estaire, and m the neighbourhood of Baclistmaur. tne enemy this morning crossed the Lawe at Lcstron, but wero driven out of the village and "across’ the river bv a counter attack. We maintained the position between Estaires and Givenchy.
