In reply to mudh. sharp criticism ■- ing out of the record attendance at Bandwick during the last meeting while the thinned Australian battalions in France insistently call for reinforcements, the big men of the sport most vitally interested, agree that there is too much racing, but claim that the fault lies with the Government in not. curtailing it. They declare the recommendations made for the limitations of sport, are now whittled away, presumably because of influential representations, and that racing is rapidly getting back to its former extraordinary proportions. They insist that the object of big clubs is sport, and the improving of horse breeding, and not for profit. As to other clubs and pony clubs which cater for non-utilify animals, they demand these should be reduced to a minimum, and point out since the commencement of the year, no fewer than 128 races have been run on pony courses, the prize money averaging only £73. .
